Let It Rain, Let It Rain, Let It Rain...

I have been having the hardest time getting into the "Christmas Spirit" this year, but the weather finally decided to cool off and today IT RAINED!!!! Woo hoo!! By the time the boys got out of school the rain was really coming down. I considered driving my car down to pick them up but I knew they would absolutely love to ride their bikes home in the rain and get all wet!! Here's a picture of the boys after a few minutes of playing in the rain.

I think I'm finally feeling it...I'm going to put up my tree tonight!!!

Happy 11th Birthday Tanner!!

I can't hardly believe it, but Tanner turned 11 on November 27th. Time is just flying by and I really wish it would just slow down a bit. I asked him if he wanted to take a birthday treat to his school class but he said he was "too old for that stuff". Oh...o.k. (sniff, sniff)

For his birthday dinner we went to his favorite restaurant, Tiki Wok, and the cute little Asian lady that always waits on us brought him some ice cream with a candle in it and sang happy birthday to him. (If you've ever seen A Christmas Story it was very similar to that, but rather than "fa, ra, ra, ra, ra" it was "hap burseday to you"---sooooo funny! I wish I had it recorded!!) Ty, Trey, and Tate loved the ice cream, and Tanner thanked them graciously even though he couldn't eat it. After dinner we went home and he opened his presents, and then he got his birthday brownies with 11 candles. I think he had a great day!

Happy Birthday, Tanner!! We Love You!!

Thanksgiving Activities

We had a fun Thanksgiving with my family this year. Mom and dad came down with my brother, Bryan, and his four kids: Mckenzy, Bryson, Payton, and Lexis, as well as my brother, Bevan, and his wife, Donna. My house was rockin' for 4 days with running, screaming, laughing, and crying children, but we had a blast! The kids even jumped in the pool on Friday morning!! They really are crazy!! We also went to the Phoenix Zoo. Here's a few pictures of our adventure...

Family Photos

I often question why I even bother to try to have a new family picture taken. It seriously tests my patience. Why is it that anytime I mention a "family picture" it instantly puts everyone in a bad mood? Tanner and Ty were ticked off that I made them do their hair, all of a sudden Treyson has no natural smile (we refer to it as the Zombie Smile), and Tate was just down-right onery!!! But, we got through it thanks to our friend Justin, who took the pictures, and his darling wife, Mila. I didn't edit any of these photos. You're seeing it just like it happened because he was just shooting pictures randomly, hoping to catch a smile.
Mission accomplished...sort of...

The Law of The Garbage Truck

My dad sent me this email this morning and I really liked it...

How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? Unless you're the Terminator, for an instant you're probably set back on your heels. However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly he/she can get back their focus on what's important. Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson.
I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here's what happened. I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car's back end by just inches! The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And Imean, he was friendly. So, I said, "Why did you just do that? This guy
almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!"And this is when my taxidriver told me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage,
full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don't take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be happy you did. So this was it: The "Law of the Garbage Truck." I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, "I'm not going to do it anymore." I began to see garbage trucks. Like in the movie "The Sixth Sense," the little boy said, "I see Dead People." Well, now "I see Garbage Trucks." I see the load they're carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on. One of my favorite football players of all time, Walter Payton, did this every day on the football field. He would jump up as quickly as he hit the ground after being tackled. He never dwelled on a hit. Payton was ready to make the next play his best. Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting.
Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. Leaders and parents know that they have to be fully present, and at their best for the people they care about. The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks takeover their day. What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by? Here's my bet. You'll be happier. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so... Love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't. Believe that everything happens for a reason. If youget a chance, TAKE IT! If it changes your life, LET IT! Nobody said it would be easy... They just promised it would be worth it!

Halloween Hauntings

Well, another Halloween's come and gone...it's hard to believe how time flies!! Here's some pictures of the boys carving pumpkins. It was a squishy mess, but they had a blast...well, all except for Ty who refuses to put his hand inside the pumpkin!!!

Notice how Ty is barely holding the end of the spoon. Don't even ask me why there's only three pumpkins...I guess that's what I get for sending Kevin to the store!!! ;) Here's pictures of all of the boys in their costumes. I was happy that they all wore costumes that we already had!! I love NOT having to buy new costumes!!Here's Kevin and I dressed up for Chad & Melissa Jorgensen's Annual Halloween Party. I begged him to take off the stupid wig, but he insisted on wearing it!!! Oy!
