Goodwill Hunting

Last Friday my beloved 22" computer monitor decided to go belly-up.  When I got over the trauma of the loss, we (my parents and I) headed out to find another one.  We checked Wal Mart and Target, but I decided I didn't want to spend $175 on a new one.  This is when my brilliant, and frugal, dad suggested looking at Goodwill.
I have to admit, until last Friday, I had never, ever, stepped foot into Goodwill.
Don't get me wrong...I have nothing against it...and I've dropped off oodles and oodles of stuff at their donations area...I had just never been inside one.
As I stepped through the door, and caught my breath (what's with the smell, anyway?)  I headed straight for the sign that read "electronics".  And, much to my surprise, there was a monitor!  Now, it wasn't a 22" monitor, but it was a monitor--and the only one there.
I snatched it up and then actually looked at my surroundings.  I immediately eyed another treasure and snatched it up, but for the sake of Christmas surprises, I cannot reveal the treasure I found.  I will say this however...I have since priced this item and have found that I purchased it (fully functional) at a fraction of it's value.  I paid a mere $40.00 and it retails for about $350.00!!!  SCORE!!
I was on a Goodwill high...which I now attribute to the putrid smell, and couldn't wait to get home to hook up my "new" monitor.
Long story short, I took it upstairs, connected it to the computer and then went to hook up the power when the problem arose.
It didn't take a "normal" power cord.
Of course not.
It couldn't possibly have been that easy.
Not when I'm involved.
Anyway, it looks like a great monitor, and I'm betting it works great.
And, hopefully someone will snatch it up at my garage sale in two weeks--without a power cord.
In the mean time, I checked my warranty on my dead monitor and found that it is still covered...for 2 more weeks.
I put it in a box and sent it on its way.
I can't wait until it comes back, revived and alive!!
And, I'm not sure I'll be heading back to Goodwill anytime soon.

I was going to be excited for you for a minute, because I haven't had any luck at goodwill. Go figure, when it doesn't work out in the end. boo. I drop stuff there all the time, cause it's just closer than DI, but the few times I've been in looking, and found something I MIGHT like to buy, it's somewhat expensive for a thrift store! Seriously, I could get the same thing, brand new for a couple bucks more at Ross or something. That's my only hang up. So glad your old one is still under warranty!!!
