Alarming

The smoke alarms in my house are possessed. Truly possessed. I can't explain it any other way. They go off at all hours for absolutely no reason. A couple of weeks ago they went off on a Sunday morning. We couldn't get them to stop. We went around and took out every battery, and then shut the breaker off. After about 10 minutes of screeching they finally shut off.
Well, last weekend they went off again. I don't know how they can do that when there's NO batteries in them, and NO power going to them. It was ear splitting and it was 4:11 A.M.
Heaven help me. So, my whole house has dangling smoke alarms right now. It's a little "white trash-y" but I have to figure out why they keep going off for no reason. I change the batteries every 6 months, and I have even vacuumed the dust out of them (a suggestion on the web).
Any ideas or suggestions??

How old are they, I have heard they will do this when they get old. However I thought your house was fairly new and I can't imagine they would all go at the same time.

My have done that too! It totally freaks you out! I never found out what was wrong with them but they eventually stopped doing it.

Ours starting doing that exact same thing and we did exactly what you did. Ours went off at 2 am one time. So much fun! We never did figure out why. Sorry that I am no help but I wonder if it has something to do with the way they set them up in our area!?!

You need to use one of your many baseball bats that you have in your house and smash them all. Ours were doing that too when we first moved in. I woke up one night and yelled to Willy, "So help me...!!!" You know when you start a sentence with "so help me" it is bad. (We changed all the batteries again at the same time.)
