Girl's Camp 2008

I'm happy to report that I made it through girl's camp. There were a few sketchy moments, but I endured and actually had a lot of fun!! It was a great opportunity for me to get to know the young women in our ward. They were hilarious and I was constantly laughing. As much as I kept telling myself that i didn't want to go, it ended up being a wonderful experience, and I'm thankful for the opportunity I had to go. Here are a few pictures:
Loading up the bus to head up to Camp LoMia in Pine, Arizona.

Kindergarten Graduation

I haven't ever been sad when my kids have started Kindergarten, but I sure feel sad when their Kindergarten year ends. It's just the best school year. I wish Kindergarten never had to end!! My Trey is getting soooooo big, and and I find myself wishing that I could just freeze him at the age he is now!! For their Kindergarten graduation they sang a few songs that they had learned, and then had the parents stand up and sing the "hokey pokey". They all laughed as they watched the audience dancing around. This is a picture with his teacher, Miss Shawnie Bruce. He absolutely loved her!!Best Friends

Weather Update:

I guess we can chalk it up to some crazy global warming (or cooling) phenomenon, or the end of the world, but it's May 23rd and it's been raining on and off for two days and it's only 67* today.
I'm leaning towards the end of the world theory...
Our local High Schools had graduation last night, and the news was saying that it was the first time in history that they've had to move graduation indoors.
Now, don't get me wrong...I'm NOT complaining. In fact, I think I'm just in shock. I hope the cool weather hangs around a little longer!!

Happy Mother's Day!!

To all of my favorite moms...

"I'm invisible." It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?"
Obviously not.
No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all.
I'm invisible.
Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a Clock to ask, "What time is it?" I'm a satellite guide to answer, "What number is the Disney Channel?" I'm a car to order, "Right around 5:30, please."I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laud but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again.
She's going. She's going. She's gone!
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was
hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a banana clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, "I brought you this. It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe." I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription:
"To Charlotte, with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees." In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would Discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. These builders gave
their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.
A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it." And the workman replied, "Because God sees."I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become." At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.
I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever
be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.
When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table."
That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, "You're gonna love it there."
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

Cute Boys

We had the fun opportunity of having Aidan stay with us for a few days! He's so dang cute and such a sweetheart! Tate (or "Tape", as Aidan calls him) and Aidan played so hard that they fell right asleep each night. Melissa's probably going to die when she sees his hair in these pictures, because honestly, I had no idea how to do it...so, Sorry Melissa!! I really did try!! Here's a couple of pictures:

Happy 4th Birthday Tate!!

It's been a weird day for me...I can't believe that just 4 short years ago I was here: And then after 3 hours of labor I had this:
And now my baby is 4...FOUR...

Wow, where does the time go??

For Tate's birthday he wanted to go to "Peeper Piper Pizza", so that's what we did. Our good friends, the Stecks, joined us for the celebration.

Tate opening his gifts:

This is Tate and "his Weston". They have a love/hate relationship...luckily tonight it was leaning toward the Love.

The only thing Tate wanted for his birthday was a purple iPod shuffle...

Well, he is only 4...so we figured a blue mp3 player that looks like an iPod shuffle would suffice. Luckily, he LOVES it!! Happy Birthday Tater!! I love you!!

White House Tea Party

One of the things I love most about Tanner is his motivation to do well in school. Although he does procrastinate a bit (totally unlike his mom...) he always comes through with a great project. The 5th grade has a White House Tea Party every year. The students all choose someone from history that did something significant. Tanner chose Roberto Clemente. He has had a great time learning about one of baseball's "Greats", and put together a really nice report and poster. He will turn in his poster tomorrow, and then on Friday he will dress up like Roberto Clemente and present his poster/research. Good Job, Tan!! I'm so proud of all you've accomplished this year!!

Father and Sons Outing 2008

This weekend was our ward's annual Father and Sons outing which, to be perfectly honest, is something I look forward to every year. This year was especially good because all 4 boys went. Kevin has a "no diapers" rule, so Tate wasn't able to go last year...although, if I remember correctly, Tate was potty trained last year. Maybe he wasn't trained enough...??? I'm just going to post the pictures and try to get Kevin to come in and do some journal entries about the photos...(ya, right!!) I guess I could make up stories to go with each photo, but the real story would probably be WAY more interesting than anything I could come up with!!

On Saturday morning the boys went on a hike to Tonto Natural Bridge.

They had a great time!!

Never Ending Chore

My least favorite household chore has got to be LAUNDRY!! I don't mind putting it in the washer or transferring it to the dryer, but I really hate to fold it and put it away. And forget ironing...if it needs to be ironed then you better just get in the car and take it to the cleaners!! You would think that I would learn that if I'd just fold it as it comes out of the dryer then it wouldn't pile up and wouldn't be such a huge undertaking...well, it's been 13 years and I still let it pile up...

My dream is to have a housekeeper that does it all...

Until that happens I'll just keep battling this:
It does make me happy, though, when it looks like this:

Now if someone would just put it away...
